How street art can become a tourist attraction

Updated: Jul 1, 2023

A number of international cities have sought to use urban ‘street art’ as a distinct tourist attraction. In some cases the art emerged organically and was subsequently adopted by the local authorities. In others it has been carefully curated and integrated within wider urban design.

Towns and cities seeking to grow new tourist attractions could consider street art as a new means to engage the public and tourists. Local and international street artists can be used to create the art pieces and it can be woven into existing urban planning and design, new and old architecture, tourist sites, and as a means to support navigation of a city.

Here are some examples of street art in different cities around the world.

Georgetown, Malaysia

Lisbon, Portugal

Podova, Italy
